Wildlife House Photography Competition Winners 2026

You may remember that Mr Burley set a challenge over the Easer holidays—The Wildlife Photography House competition.  The rules were simple to take a photo for either of the 2 categories—wildlife or landscape.  Ably judged by Mr Castle, here are our winners!

Wildlife - Year 7 - 1st Place:  Matilda G - Sherwood
Judges comments: Great depth of field and use of emphasis.  Well Done!

Wildlife - Year 7 - 2nd Place:  Alex S- L - New
Judges comments: Using the rule of 3rds well and blowing out the background ever so slightly with the depth of field

Landscape - Year 7 - 1st  Place:  Cody C - Langdale
Judges comments: Great shot taken in the golden hour displaying a great landscape in silhouette in the rule of thirds.

Landscape - Year 7 - 2nd Place:  Hugo KB - Kielder
Judges comments: Awesome picture using reflection, leading lines in the magic hour of sunset

Wildlife - Year 8 - 1st Place:  Jessica S - Kielder
Judges comments: Great shot using diagonal line to enhance the shot

Wildlife - Year 8 - 2nd Place:  Ruby E-H - Langdale
Judges comments: Using the rule of 3rds with depth of field having blur in the foreground rather than the background as well as good use of contrast of light and dark

Landscape - Year 8 - 1st Place:  Amber H - New
Judges comments: Great shot love the ambiguity of the shot is it trees? Is it a close up of cells? Is it Mycelium?

Landscape - Year 8 - 2nd Place:  Willow G - Kielder
Judges comments: Great use of emphasis using the bark lines to move you eye to the center point of the image and the small toadstool

Wildlife Year 9 - 1st Place:  Ben C - Sherwood
Judges comments: Great headshot loving the sparkle the white dots are giving - Is it water droplets or reflections off the water

Wildlife Year 9 - 2nd:  Joey R - Bramshill
Judges comment: Blink and you’ll miss it! Simple yet effective but you have to look! Love the use of space and the horizon line

Landscape - Year 9 - 1st Place:  Raphael H - Ashdown
Judges comments: Getting Aurora Borealis. WOW! Showing the exposure time with the yellow light trace in the bottom of the picture well taken! 

Landscape - Year 9 - 2nd Place:  Pranoy R - New
Judges comments: Fantastic shot with a great angle and a lovely bit of sun flare! - Great leading line for the eye

Wildlife - Year 10 - 1st place:  James S - Windsor
Judges comments: Lovely close up using diagonal lines to break the image up.

Landscape - Year 10 - 1st place:  Eden T - Sherwood
Judges comments: It’s got a little of everything: leading lines; sun flare and a diagonal split giving balance to the image.

Landscape and Wildlife together - Year 11 -1st Place:  Shashaanth P - Windsor
Judges comments: Magic hour.  Leading lines with the swans ripple in the water and the rule of thirds happening - Well done!
