Forest GCSE Success - Celebrating the highest grades  

We are extremely proud of our Year 11 students who have achieved outstanding results this summer, with a record number of students securing the highest grades.

Academic excellence has reached even greater heights at The Forest School, with 20% of students achieving grades 7-9 in both English and Maths, demonstrating the exceptional ability and ambition of our students. Across all subjects, nearly 30% of all grades awarded were at grades 7-9 – the top grades that Universities and competitive sixth forms look for.

Shirley Austin, Headteacher said, “This represents some of our strongest performance at the top end, and reflects our commitment to stretching and challenging our most able students. There has been some exceptional performance at the 9-7 boundary in Computer Science, French, Maths, Music, Business and Geography.” 

The majority of our students gained qualifications that will open doors to their chosen pathways. They achieved an average point score across all their GCSEs that represents a strong pass (grade 5 or above). This demonstrates consistent performance across the breadth of the curriculum. The progress that students have made from their starting points reflects significant value added. 

Behind these headlines are individual stories of determination, resilience and achievement. Students have worked incredibly hard, supported by dedicated staff and families, to reach their potential. To name some of the students we have been celebrating today; Aarav achieved ten grade 9s, along with an A in Additional Maths, Zibo achieved eleven grade 9s, Reuben achieved 100% grades 9-6 with 7 grade 9s, Alex achieved 100% grades 9-8 with 7 grade 9s and 4 grade 8s, Samuel achieved 100% grades 9-7 with 7 grade 9s.

Other outstanding achievements including Aarav and Zibo who were with 8 marks of full marks across all the French papers, Alex who exceeded the boundary for a 9 in Geography by a long way, and Haris within a mark off full marks across both English Literature papers and Connor exceeding the boundary for grade 9 in PE by 10 marks. This success for some students sat alongside them having taken Further Maths and Additional Maths too. For many of these students they combined this academic success with performing in their selected sports, resulting in being recognised by Elite clubs across the country and national team selection; to name a few Manchester United FC, Nottingham Forest FC, Wolverhampton, Reading and European clubs. 

We continue to celebrate the success of students achieving additional language qualifications with 100% 9-7 being celebrated in GCSE Portuguese, Arabic and Cantonese this year. 

It was a pleasure to welcome Ming Zang, Director of Education from Wokingham Borough Council, to school this morning to join the celebrations with families and staff. He congratulated students and discussed their plans for A level study at The Forest.

A Level Academic Excellence at Forest

Nearly a quarter of all A Level students achieved top grades of A-B across three academic subjects this year. The A*-A performance grew again this year, with some of our STEM subjects in particular reaching up to 67% for this outcome. This year’s results also show how well students achieve across the broad range of subjects at Forest, with more than two-thirds of students achieving the highest grades. Our high aspirations for students have been met with a further, significant increase in students meeting top University entry requirements; those with grades AAB in 2 or more facilitating subjects in 2026. 

Headteacher Shirley Austin said “We are proud that 2026 shows new records broken at Forest, and continued improvement made in the Sixth Form. Our staff and students have maintained our excellent levels of achievement in Computer Science, Physical Education, Art and Photography, Film, Maths and Further Maths, with new records being set this year in English Literature and Physics. Building on our  continued success this year, our ‘value added’ and the number of A levels on target have improved for the third year.”   

The Forest School are proud to report on our students securing their places at their first choice Universities, including Bristol, Kings College, UCL and Loughborough.

These are a few of the highlights of this year, with students having built an excellent academic foundation to take them onto their next steps into university, apprenticeship, employment and beyond. Nikki Welch, Head of Sixth Form, led the celebrations that started at 8:00am in Forest 6th. “It’s been a fantastic first year for me leading the Sixth Form. I share the ambition that every student will leave Forest having achieved at the highest level, and being prepared to succeed in their chosen pathway.”
