Hannah Maki Hamad
I'm currently in Y12 at Forest6 studying Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, and an EPQ.
I'm a Langdale Lion!
My best Forest memories...
Feeling like my Year 12 mock examinations were successful, thanks to all of the hard work I put in over the course of the year. I am also fond of the Chemistry lecture on Carbon 13 NMR, Proton NMR, Infrared Spectroscopy, and Mass Spectrometry (the core analytical techniques explored within the OCR specification) at the University of Reading. Within the masterclass, we had the opportunity to learn the procedure, scope, and purpose of carrying out the hands-on nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy of paracetamol and the infrared spectroscopy of a myriad of chemical substances, including 4-methylpent-3-ene-2-one. In addition to the existing research I have conducted surrounding the subject of spectroscopy, I gained valuable knowledge surrounding NMR, which uses a magnet to probe the intrinsic properties of atomic nuclei that have an odd number of nucleons and utilises radio waves to promote the transition between energy levels of nuclei. The session inspired me to delve into A2 Organic Chemistry content and get ahead during my free time!
My top tip(s) for current students is...
Pre-reading, post-reading, and completing exam questions, as well as any homework assigned by your class teachers, is of the utmost significance! I would also advise integrating spaced repetition, to ensure you retain all of the information gained throughout the course of the year. This will also ensure that you maximise your scores on your Year 12 mock examinations, which are used by your teachers for your UCAS predicted grades. Besides academics, ensure you engage in physical activity and take care of your well-being, to ensure you maintain a healthy academics-life balance
