Parent Support

Parent Support

Welcome to Parent Support. We are the only mainstream secondary school in the Wokingham area who employ a Parent Support Adviser. The job of the Adviser is to provide parent/family support and a link between families and school.

Perhaps you have a question or a problem and, for whatever reasons, feel unsure who to approach. I am based in school so please feel free to contact me, my number is 0118 978 1626 extension 1085. I can also be contacted via email by clicking here.

Anything discussed between a family and myself will be treated with the utmost confidence and respect, and I am working within the school’s confidentiality policy. "A problem shared is a problem halved", so please feel free to contact me. I will also be sharing news and events through the school newsletter, so please keep checking.

Supporting and Sharing Skills with Other Parents

Supporting and Sharing Skills with Other Parents

Parenting doesn't come with an instruction manual, and sometimes it can be difficult and challenging, no matter what age your child(ren). Would you benefit from the opportunity to discuss issues with parents in a similar position, and come up with some effective strategies?

  • Dealing with parenting stresses and concerns
  • Positive discipline and behavioural management
  • How to listen so children and teenagers talk
  • How to talk so children and teenagers listen
  • And so much more.......

For more information, please contact Deborah Farley.

'Out of Hours' Support for Parents

School staff are available during the day to talk through issues surrounding your child(ren). But who can you turn to if you have a problem in the evening or at weekends? The national charity, Parentline Plus, has been re-launched as Family Lives. They can offer free support and advice to parents and families via their website: www.familylives.org.uk or by calling the 24 hour 'Parentline' free on 0800 800 2222. For those parents/carers who are deaf or have a speech impediment, the free text 'phone number is 0800 783 6783.

Are you entitled to Free School Meals?

Could your child(ren) be entitled to FREE SCHOOL MEALS? Unfortunately, many families who would qualify for Free School Meals do not apply for them. It is not always just a hot meal for the child, sometimes there are wider benefits for the family. We appreciate that this can be a sensitive issue, so eligibility information and guidance notes can be found on the Wokingham Borough Council website page. Application forms can be downloaded from this website or are available from the school office.

Free guide covers childcare, holiday schemes, additional needs support and much more

For Adults: Provides info on local organisations and services for adults and vulnerable adults, and covers areas like carers & short breaks, housing, daycare, learning & development, leisure activities & transport.

The Families Directory also contains information and services for young people and parents with a child who has additional needs.
