Year 5 & 6 Handball Festival at Forest

15th January 2019

The Forest School Year 9 Leaders welcomed Year 5 and 6 pupils from  Winnersh, Hawthorns, Hawkedon, Nine Mile Ride and The Coombs School yesterday to take part in a Handball Festival.

After a Handball demonstration and some coaching time, to practice some skills, the Handball games got underway. Year 9s and their Year 5 & 6 visitors had a great time; the sports hall was filled with activity and ‘high fives’.

This was the first time that this group of Forest Leaders has helped with a Primary School Event. Mr Eaglesham, Forest School PE teacher, asked his Y9s what it meant to be a Forest Leader. They said,

“I really enjoyed coaching the primary school pupils about sport.”

“You have to be patient and enjoy coaching.”

“It’s harder than it looks; after the demonstration you need to be clear and explain the rules, and keep encouraging everyone.”

“I like refereeing and hope to be a Leader again at the next Primary School event.”

We look forward to the next Forest School and Primary School Multi Skills Event in January
