Another record breaker!

18th August 2022

The Forest School students and staff are celebrating a fantastic set of results for this year’s A level students. The hard work and motivation of our staff and students ensures that the outcomes are a real credit to them and we wish them every success as they prepare for the next chapter in their lives. We are proud of all involved, who ensured that learning  continued throughout, and in spite of  the challenges over the past years with covid. This is the first formal examination series for these students since SATs in primary school and they have shown the resilience that only Forest brings.

23% A*-A is a significant achievement this year, and more than double what was achieved in 2019. That is set against a drop in grades at the top end in schools nationally this year.   The school has performed very well in traditionally academic subjects such as Maths, French, Economics and Geography and also performing strongly in Art, Business (vocational and A level), Computer Science, Travel and Tourism and Law.

Headteacher,  Ms Shirley Austin commented that she is personally delighted that “all our students are leaving with A levels and to have a high proportion with A*- C grades is a real achievement for them. They have been highly successful in both academic and vocational courses. Moving our A*-A  is astonishing and highlights the teachers' work. Students from Forest will be leaving here to take up places at universities such as Oxford, London School of Economics, Bristol, Cardiff, Royal Holloway, Sheffield and Sussex to study a diverse range of subjects including maths, astrophysics, economics, pharmacy, neuroscience, film and engineering.  Others have gained employment at sought after apprenticeships schemes following the outstanding guidance from all staff but particularly Mr Jackman, who as head of sixth form also offers fantastic independent and individualised careers guidance to every student. We all ASPIRE to support students in achieving what they want in life and we are dedicated to this motto across the school and our co-educational sixth form is clearly a fundamental and successful part of the school, great to see Maya leading the way with 3 A*,  Cillian fulfilling his ambition to read languages at Oxford and Haroon with 2 A* and 2A’s which takes him to Warwick University to study engineering. Many students achieving the top  A*-B, to name but a few; Tommy Crompton, Thomas D’Abreo, Miraj Choudhry, Ezra Peters, Theo Phillips, James Roberts, Dan Jones and James Swain. We are delighted to celebrate Josh Cox, Max Drury and Joel Whitlock’s success achieving well above their expected grades with Distinctions and Distinctions star.

It has been lovely seeing the students this morning and we are available to  support any student who needs additional help with the University clearing process, however looking at the portal and seeing the students this morning almost all students have achieved their dream place. Well done to all our students – another great year of academic success to go alongside the already excellent sporting success, and one for us to build on as we journey to becoming outstanding in the eyes of Ofsted!"

We still have a small number of spaces available in our ever thriving Sixth form for September.  Remember we welcome girls to join our community of academic aspiring and excellent students, and we look forward to hearing from you if you would like to join us.
