Reading University 'Students in Schools' scheme

16th March 2022

Former Forest sixth form student Jordan Brown is volunteering his time throughout the spring term to help pupils in the science department. Jordan successfully completed his A levels in Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics in 2019 and is currently studying Biomedical Sciences at Reading University. He is participating in the popular and established ‘Students in Schools’ scheme to gain valuable experience communicating knowledge and ideas to support pupils in local schools.

This term Jordan has been working with the Science department to provide support and 1:1 tutoring to pupils in Biology lessons. He has assisted year 7 pupils to improve their graph plotting skills and data analysis and has taught revision sessions to a group of year 11 pupils about inherited disorders and genetics. Pupils were also interested to ask Jordan about day to day university life and how courses are structured.

In the future Jordan is interested in obtaining a Master’s degree regenerative medicine with the hope to pursue a career in clinical biomedicine. In the meantime, we are grateful for this enthusiasm for science and willingness to share his expertise with the school community.
